Red Coral is a large family of small groups. Red Corals possess some characteristics – hard for carving bone, red coral having bright color never fade, etc.

Rare Red Corals grows in the deep expanse of the ocean often with the mystery. The main corals defined as “red corals” are the species Corallium rubrum and Corallium japonicum, which do not form reefs.

Identification of Red Coral

Strong bubbling is shown on the red coral gemstone when a drop of hydrophobic acid is thrown on it. This method is used to check the authentication of the gemstone. Apply the following test in order to identify the real Red Coral:-

  • Place Coral into the glass of cow’s milk, if it is real, then the color of milk will be changed into pink or red color because imitation Corals will not affect the whiteness of milk.
  • If corals are dropped in blood, blood will thicken around it.

Physical Properties of Red Coral

    Corals are not found in very large sizes.

  2. Color

    There are varieties of Corals. Coral gemstones occur in white, pink, orange, red, blue, violet, gold and black. The ones that are mainly used in jewelry are Red Corals, Pink and White Corals. Corals from Japan are said to have “OX-BLOOD” red color. This color of Coral is valued highly and is demanded in the jewelry market. The pink to orange-pink are not popular as the red one.

  3. Cut

    Corals are used to be carved in figures, statues, spherical and cabochons. Thin branches of corals are used to stud in the jewelry. Corals roses are very famous and used in gold jewelry.

  4. Clarity

    Corals is mainly dusky. It may have surface markings through which we can see clearly. Some common markings are wood grain effect, groove pits, and striations.
